ABOUT
SACHA C. REID
Sacha Christine Reid is a multidisciplinary artist and painter from West Virginia. She draws inspiration from her Jamaican heritage, the beauty and resilience of Black women, and the rich tapestry of Black familial experiences. My paintings focus on highlighting the lives, relationships, and narratives of Black Women through depicting the beauty of our hair, style, and traditions. Her work celebrates the lives, relationships, and narratives of Black Women, often utilizing natural hair in its endless creativity to convey the beauty and multiplicity of Black femininity.
After graduating from Howard University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities with a Painting Minor, Sacha balances her studio practice with a passion for curation, creating spaces where art and community intersect. She believes in the power of art to serve as both a historical record and a catalyst for dialogue. Whether capturing intimate moments through her figurative paintings that highlight the artistry that is Black hair or creating pieces inspired by colors and fabrics that speak to Afro-Caribbean heritage, her work is grounded in honoring her roots and amplifying meaningful narratives. Furthering her curatorial interests, Sacha is currently a graduate student at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, where she will receive her MA in Art History.
Through her art and practice, Sacha aims to leave a lasting impact by celebrating culture, championing community through accessibility in art spaces, and sharing art with the world.
